Jeff Roberts BA Dip TM RJB Thai and Japanese bodywork Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Qi Gong tuition
Drawing on the traditional medical practices of China, Japan and Thailand, I offer therapeutic bodywork treatments which can help:
· promote relaxation and reduce stress · relieve and prevent sports injuries · restore well-being and balance the emotions · help ease the symptoms of a wide range of ailments, including headaches, colds, asthma, high or low blood pressure, digestive disorders, menstrual irregularity and insomnia.
Treatments are usually received on a floor-level futon mattress or, for head, neck and back work only, sitting in a specially designed ergonomic chair. They do not require oils and are received through clothing.
Using deep tissue massage, assisted stretching and acupressure (the stimulation of channels and points on the body), treatments aim to trigger the body’s natural self-healing abilities by facilitating the circulation of blood and energy.
PRICES For a one-hour treatment £40 For a 30 minute treatment (Seated bodywork only) £20
TAIJIQUAN AND QI GONG TUITION
The regular practice of Taijiquan can help:
• strengthen the heart and regulate blood pressure; • strengthen the lungs; • tone muscles and strengthen ligaments and tendons; • strengthen bones and help stop them becoming brittle; ... • improve posture and balance; • calm the mind and nervous system; • and improve physical and mental co-ordination.
Classes introduce students to the fundamental principles of Taijiquan by first teaching them a simplified short form, some basic qi gong and other supplementary exercises. Following this, students move on to study the Wu style long form, some more advanced qi gong as well as pushing hands (tui shou), a form of dynamic partner work and the basis for developing Taiji as a martial art. For those who are interested in progressing further, there is the possibility of tuition in Taiji sword (jian) and saber (dao). The classes are suitable for adults of all ages, irrespective of their level of fitness. I teach following the syllabus of the UK Wu Style Taijiquan and Qi Gong Association (http://www.wutaijiandqigong.co.uk), an organization dedicated to disseminating authentic Wu style Taiji and Qi Gong as taught by the late Master Li Li Qun (1925-2013) of Shanghai. Master Li was one of China’s leading exponents of Tai Ji and Qi Gong and a nationally recognized spokesperson for the Wu style. He was a disciple of the late Grandmaster Ma Yueh Liang, the son-in-law and ‘closed door’ student of Wu Jian Quan, the founder of the Wu style. My teacher, the head of the UK Association, Michael Acton, was a disciple of Dr Li. Michael’s close connection with Shanghai continues via a relationship with Master Liu Ji Fa, the Association’s senior ‘Teaching Brother’ and Technical Coach.
I am currently only teaching privately. Please contact me for details and prices.
